Dengue outbreak in Rourkela: Sector 14 under surveillance

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 10: The rise in dengue cases in Sundergarh district has reached alarming levels, with a total of 64 confirmed cases reported. Among these, 57 cases originate from Rourkela city, while Birmitrapur accounts for 2 cases and the remaining 5 cases are scattered across other parts of the district.
Sector 14 in Rourkela has been identified as a hotspot zone, prompting the district administration to implement rigorous sanitation measures and surveillance in the area to curb further spread.
The escalation in dengue incidents has prompted concerns, particularly with 14 sectors in Rourkela designated as hotspots. The health department has escalated efforts to control the disease, intensifying testing and surveillance. Residents are strongly advised to take preventive measures against mosquito bites and promptly report any symptoms to health authorities.
Currently, seven patients are receiving treatment at Rourkela Government Hospital, while others are undergoing care in private hospitals. The district health department remains vigilant, assuring the community of comprehensive measures to halt the spread of dengue.
Bhakta Mohan Swain, Additional District Public Health Officer, commented, “Rourkela’s urban areas have seen the highest concentration of dengue cases, totaling 64 confirmed infections. Given the influx of visitors from various parts of the state, such as Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Rourkela experiences an annual increase in dengue cases. However, we have the situation under control.”
