Deepika Padukone’s Name Missing from Kalki 2898 AD Credits Sparks Online Outcry
In a surprising turn, fans of Kalki 2898 AD were quick to notice that Deepika Padukone’s name was missing from circulating versions of the film’s end credits, triggering widespread speculation and backlash across social media.
The film, which stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone, blends dystopian science fiction with mythological fantasy and has grossed over Rs 1,000 crore globally.
Padukone portrayed SUM-80, a pregnant woman pursued by bounty hunter Prabhas and protected by Ashwatthama, played by Amitabh Bachchan. Despite viral posts suggesting her name was removed, official OTT releases on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video still list her in the credits, just below Bachchan.
Last month, Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed that Padukone would not return for the sequel. Sources suggest her exit stemmed from demands for improved working conditions, including higher pay and shorter shifts.
This marks her second high-profile departure in recent months, following her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit.
Fans have expressed disappointment, calling the omission “petty and unprofessional.” Meanwhile, Padukone is moving forward with major projects, including King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and a collaboration with Allu Arjun under director Atlee.
The sequel’s release date and her replacement remain unannounced.
