Deep depression over Bay of Bengal,IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, May 29 (UNI) Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at several places in Odisha for the next couple of days due to deep depression over the Northwest Bay of Bengal.

IMD said the deep depression is very likely to move nearly north-northeastwards, maintain its intensity of deep depression till evening, and weaken gradually into a depression thereafter.

Reports reaching the state capital said Lanjigarh in Kalahandi recorded 10cm rainfall followed by Chilka ( 9 cm), Angul, Begunia,Krishnaprasad, Ganjam, and Bhaopur with 7 cm.

The MET sources said Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely to prevail over north Bay of Bengal and along & off West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts till evening of today, and thereafter, it would gradually decrease and becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph by morning of May 30.

Squally wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is prevailing along and off Odisha coast and it is likely to continue till May 30.

The Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts during May 29 and 30.
Local Cautionary Signal No-III (LC-3)has been hoisted at all ports of Odisha.

The Fishermen are advised not to venture into north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts during May 29-30.

The IMD has issued both Orange and Yellow warnings to several Odisha districts where Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60kmph and Heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur

It further said the strong wind may damage plantation, horticulture and standing crops and there might be minor damage to loose / unsecured structures,kutcha house and partial damage to vulnerable structures due to strong winds.
