Bhubaneswar, Dec 30: The deadline for farmers in Odisha to report crop damage caused by unseasonal rains has been extended to January 1, 2025, allowing them to claim compensation for their losses.
Initially set for December 29, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi first extended the deadline to December 31, and then further to January 1 to accommodate more affected farmers.
The state government has recognized the extensive damage caused by the unseasonal rains and is committed to supporting the impacted farmers. To assess the situation, Chief Minister Majhi visited Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts on Sunday, with other ministers also inspecting affected areas.
The government will provide assistance to both insured and uninsured farmers suffering from crop loss. Following the Chief Minister’s request, the state sought an extension from the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment. In response, the Central government granted an additional three days for farmers to report their losses.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for their support towards the farmers of Odisha.
