Cyclonic Circulation Triggers Rain Alert Across Southern Odisha

Bhubaneswar, September 12 — A developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has prompted the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a rain alert for southern Odisha.

The weather disturbance, influenced by an upper air cyclonic circulation off the coasts of north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha, is expected to bring heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours.

The IMD reports that the cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level and tilts southward with height. As the system moves west-northwestward, it is likely to affect regions in south Odisha, north Andhra Pradesh, and south Chhattisgarh.

Authorities have urged residents in low-lying and coastal areas to remain vigilant. Emergency response teams are being mobilised to mitigate potential flooding, transport disruptions, and agricultural damage.

Meteorologists are closely monitoring the system’s trajectory and intensity, especially as it coincides with seasonal transitions that often amplify weather volatility.
