Cyclonic Circulation Sparks Heavy Rain Alert in Odisha; Monsoon Revival in Sight

Cyclonic circulation in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 16(OT Webdesk) – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall across Odisha from June 16 to 19, as a cyclonic circulation brews over the northwestern Bay of Bengal.

This weather system is expected to reinvigorate the southwest monsoon, which had remained stalled since late May.

The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore, warning of heavy to very heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and strong winds of 30–40 kmph.

Simultaneously, a Yellow Alert has been sounded for Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Angul, Rayagada, and several southern and coastal districts, anticipating localised storms and gusty winds.

The meteorological shift is a welcome development for the state’s agriculture and water reservoirs, which had been grappling with dry conditions.

Experts say the prevailing system is enhancing moisture flow, fostering conducive conditions for the monsoon’s advance over both interior and coastal Odisha.

The IMD continues to monitor the system’s progression and urges residents to stay alert to evolving weather conditions.
