Cyclonic Alert: Odisha Braces for Heavy Rainfall from October 24

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: Odisha is bracing for a prolonged spell of rainfall as three low-pressure systems brew over the Bay of Bengal, triggering a cyclone alert across the state.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of potential disruptions between October 24 and 29, urging residents and authorities to stay vigilant.

The first system, currently active in the southwest Bay of Bengal, is expected to intensify into a depression by tonight. It is projected to move northwest, impacting coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, southern Andhra Pradesh, and parts of southern Odisha with moderate to heavy showers.

Meteorologists anticipate two more systems to follow in quick succession. The second system, likely to form around October 25, could directly affect Odisha’s central and northern districts.

The third, expected between October 26 and 29, may veer toward Tamil Nadu but could still influence Odisha’s weather due to overlapping activity.

Districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri are forecast to receive significant rainfall. Interior regions may also experience intense showers, accompanied by cold winds and overcast skies.

The Odisha government has issued an alert and is closely monitoring developments. Authorities are preparing for possible disruptions in transportation, agriculture, and daily life. Meteorologists caution that the first system might drift toward the Arabian Sea, adding complexity to the forecast.

Residents are advised to follow official updates and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
