Cyclone Montha Weakens After Narasapur Landfall | IMD Forecasts Deep Depression
Cyclone Montha made landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, slightly south of Kakinada, beginning around 11:30 PM Tuesday and lasting until 4:30 AM Wednesday.
Wind speeds reached 90–100 kmph, with gusts up to 110 kmph, affecting several coastal districts, including Rajahmundry, Bapatla, Kavali, Ulavapadu, and Nellore.
The storm triggered rough sea conditions and high tidal surges, leading to minor breaches in coastal embankments and localised flooding in low-lying areas.
Rainfall to Persist Across Interior Regions
Despite the weakening system, widespread rainfall continues across coastal Andhra Pradesh and is advancing toward Telangana and southern Odisha. The IMD has warned of potential waterlogging and localized flooding due to persistent downpours.
Preliminary reports indicate no large-scale destruction. However, strong winds uprooted trees and disrupted power supply in parts of East and West Godavari districts.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable zones to remain alert as intermittent rain is expected to continue through Wednesday evening.
