Cyclone Montha Grounds 61 Trains Across Eastern India

Bhubaneswar, October 28, 2025 — In a sweeping safety initiative ahead of Cyclone Montha’s landfall, Indian Railways has cancelled 61 trains across Eastern India, disrupting travel plans for thousands.

The move comes as part of a coordinated effort with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and disaster response teams to minimize risk during the severe weather event.

The bulk of cancellations—48 trains—occurred on October 28, with additional suspensions spanning October 27 to 30. Key services affected include the Bhubaneswar–New Hyderabad Special, Puri–Tirupati Express, and Bengaluru–Bhubaneswar Prashanti Express.

Beyond cancellations, authorities have short-terminated or short-originated 9 trains, diverted 6, and rescheduled another 9 to ensure operational safety.

Field crews are actively monitoring tracks, signals, and overhead lines, ready to initiate repairs once conditions stabilize.

Passengers are urged to consult official railway channels for real-time updates and alternative arrangements.
