Cyclone Likely to Form in Bay of Bengal; Odisha Unlikely to Face Major Impact

Meteorologists have confirmed that a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area, raising the possibility of cyclonic development in the coming days.

Forecast models suggest the system may strengthen into a depression by November 24, with the potential to evolve into a cyclonic storm over the southwestern Bay of Bengal soon after.

Despite the looming threat, Odisha is expected to remain largely unaffected. Historical climatological data indicate that cyclones forming after mid-November typically track toward Tamil Nadu or southern Andhra Pradesh, reducing the likelihood of a direct landfall on the Odisha coast.

Additionally, systems moving northward often weaken due to cooler atmospheric conditions over northern India.

Weather experts predict dry conditions across most of Odisha until November 30. However, coastal districts may experience light to moderate rainfall after December 1, depending on the cyclone’s eventual path and intensity.

Meteorological agencies continue to monitor the system closely, with further updates anticipated as the situation develops.
