Cyclone Ditwah Approaches Tamil Nadu Coast, Alters Odisha Weather
The cyclonic storm Ditwah, brewing over the northern parts of the southwest Bay of Bengal, has steadily advanced toward southern India.
In the past six hours, the system moved at 10 km/h toward northern Sri Lanka and is currently centred over that region. As of November 29, Ditwah is positioned about 250 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 350 km south of Chennai.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm is expected to continue its north-northwest trajectory, approaching the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and southern Andhra Pradesh by the morning of November 30.
Forecasts indicate that Ditwah will intensify overnight, coming within 25–60 km of the Tamil Nadu–Puducherry coastline.
The cyclone’s influence has already altered weather patterns in Odisha. The winter chill has eased, with night temperatures rising above 10°C across the state.
In Daringbadi and Phulbani, the minimum temperature recorded was 10°C. A high-pressure system has also contributed to these changes. Dense fog was reported in five districts today, adding to the unusual conditions.
Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to remain alert and follow IMD advisories as the storm progresses.
