Cyclone Dana: Minister assures quick restoration of electricity and services

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), Oct 25: As electricity supply was disrupted in several areas affected by Cyclone Dana, the Odisha government assured residents on Friday that normalcy in power distribution would be restored by evening.
Following a post-cyclone review meeting, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari informed reporters that the intensity of rain and wind would gradually decrease as the storm weakens after making landfall in the Bhitarkanika area of Kendrapara district.
Minister Pujari highlighted that teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Odisha Fire Service, Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC), and the Rural Development Department are working diligently to restore road communications by clearing uprooted trees and other obstacles in the affected regions.
He noted that while power supply had been interrupted in some areas, efforts are in full swing to restore it by Friday evening. Pujari added that telecom services remained unaffected during the cyclone.
In terms of relief efforts, the minister reported that those housed in cyclone shelters are being provided with cooked food and essential facilities. Pregnant women have been relocated to medical centers and ‘Maa Gruhas’ as a precaution. Remarkably, 1,600 babies were born during the cyclone, including 13 sets of twins.
