Bhubaneswar, Odisha (OT Webdesk) – In a significant breakthrough, cyber police have dismantled a fraud operation that conned a victim out of ₹7.7 lakh through deceptive job offers and investment schemes on WhatsApp and Telegram.
The fraudsters initially approached the victim via WhatsApp, offering a lucrative part-time job. The victim was later added to a Telegram group where they were encouraged to invest money with promises of high returns.
Over time, the victim deposited substantial amounts but was unable to withdraw funds. Realising the deception, they reported the case to the police.
Authorities swiftly launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of three suspects from the Nayagarh district. Police recovered mobile phones, an ATM card, and various documents linked to the operation.
It was revealed that the fraud gang had over ten members, with frozen bank accounts under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation.
Cyber police have urged citizens to be cautious when engaging in online job offers and investment opportunities, advising them to verify legitimacy before transferring any funds.
