Cuttack Unsafe Buildings to Be Demolished Soon, Announces Urban Development Minister

Bhubaneswar: Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mohapatra has announced in the Odisha Assembly that all unsafe and dilapidated buildings in Cuttack will be demolished soon.

The minister revealed that a special committee has been formed under the Cuttack Municipal Corporation to identify such structures.

The committee is conducting ward‑by‑ward surveys, and once the process is complete, notices will be served to property owners before demolition begins.

This move comes in the wake of a tragic incident on November 8 in Cuttack’s Manisahu Chhak area, where a balcony collapsed during repair work, claiming three lives and leaving six others injured.

The building, declared unsafe earlier, had not been demolished due to disputes and neglect.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep condolences over the deaths and announced Rs 4 lakh compensation for each victim’s family, along with medical support for the injured.

The government’s latest decision aims to prevent further tragedies and ensure public safety in the city.
