Cuttack Communal Tensions: Odisha CM Majhi Urges Peace, Orders Internet Ban

Cuttack, October 5 — In response to escalating communal tensions across Cuttack, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has issued a heartfelt appeal for peace and unity.

The Chief Minister emphasised the city’s thousand-year-old legacy of harmony and vowed strict action against those inciting violence.

Over the past few days, clashes between groups have disrupted daily life, prompting fear among residents.

The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) attributed the unrest to anti-social elements attempting to destabilise public order. “Cuttack is a symbol of brotherhood and harmony,” Majhi stated, adding that the government is closely monitoring the situation and will take firm legal action against violators.

To restore calm, CM Majhi directed Director General of Police YB Khurania to personally oversee law and order in the city.

In a decisive move, the Odisha Home Department imposed a 24-hour suspension of internet and social media services across key areas of Cuttack, including the CMC, CDA, and 42 Mauza regions.

The ban, effective from 7 PM on October 5 to 7 PM on October 6, aims to curb the spread of provocative and false content online.

Despite the digital blackout, authorities assured that emergency services remain unaffected. The CMO reiterated its call for unity, urging citizens to uphold Cuttack’s cultural heritage and work collectively to preserve peace.
