Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), June 19: Curfew has been imposed in Balasore district of Odisha since June 17, with reports indicating that 63 individuals have been arrested so far. According to sources on Wednesday, the Balasore district administration has extended the curfew in the Balasore Municipality area until midnight on June 19.
The curfew was initiated from midnight on June 17 until June 18 midnight following a clash between groups. Balasore Collector Ashish Thakare highlighted that all entry points to OT Road will remain shut during this period.
A notification issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate under Section 144 of Cr. P.C stated, “In anticipation of a serious law and order situation, the curfew is extended in Balasore Municipality areas on both sides of the road from midnight on June 18, 2024, to midnight on June 19, 2024. All entry points to the OT Road shall be closed.”
During the curfew period, individuals are prohibited from leaving their homes or moving on foot or by vehicle in public areas, except for emergency medical reasons. Additionally, all commercial and other establishments in the specified areas must remain closed.
However, exemptions apply to personnel engaged in law enforcement, emergency and municipal services, health services, electricity supply, government officials, bank staff, and those providing essential services like refueling at petrol pumps and LPG gas supply. Candidates appearing for examinations in the designated areas are also exempted.
