CRPF Head Constable Dies After Landmine Blast in Saranda Forest
Rourkela, Oct 11 — A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Head Constable, Mahendra Laskar, succumbed to injuries sustained in a landmine explosion during an anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand’s Saranda Forest.
The blast occurred Thursday afternoon in the Babudera region, a known Maoist stronghold.
Laskar was part of a joint CRPF-district police team tasked with dismantling insurgent hideouts and recovering improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
Alongside Laskar, CRPF Inspector K.K. Mishra and Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramkrishna Gagrai were also injured. All three were airlifted to Apollo Hospital in Rourkela for emergency treatment.
Despite intensive care, Laskar’s condition deteriorated, and he was declared dead early Saturday morning.
Security forces continue combing operations in the area, while officials reaffirm their commitment to neutralising extremist threats in the region.
