Cricket fever peaks as thousands queue for India-England ODI tickets at Barabati

Bhubaneswar,(Orissa today) Feb 5: With just days remaining for the India-England ODI match at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on February 9, cricket fever has reached a fever pitch. Over 10,000 eager fans have gathered near the stadium since Tuesday evening, hoping to secure their tickets as the demand continues to soar.
According to reports, around 11,500 tickets will be available for sale at various counters on February 5 and 6. However, the massive turnout has already created chaos, with fans braving sleepless nights on the streets in anticipation of the ticket sale. Women and young enthusiasts have been seen waiting overnight despite the challenges.
In a surprising revelation, ticket brokers have allegedly hired women from slum areas, paying them ₹2,000 each to stand in line and buy tickets on their behalf. However, the police have denied permission for them to queue up, leaving many stranded outside the barricaded areas.
To ensure fairness, each person is allowed to purchase a maximum of two tickets and must present valid identification, such as an Aadhaar card, voter ID, or PAN card. The police’s refusal to permit overnight queues has further intensified tensions, as thousands continue to wait anxiously outside the stadium in hopes of securing their seats for the highly anticipated match.
