Congress Tables No-Confidence Motion Against Odisha Government Amid Monsoon Session

Bhubaneswar, September 18, 2025 — In a bold political manoeuvre, the Congress party has formally submitted a no-confidence motion against the Odisha government led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The motion, signed by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rama Chandra Kadam, was delivered to Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy via the Assembly Secretary.

Filed under Rule 117(1) of the Odisha Legislative Assembly procedures, the motion reads: “That this House expresses no confidence in the present Council of Ministers led by Shri Mohan Charan Majhi.”

The move comes during the ongoing monsoon session, a period marked by heightened scrutiny of the government’s performance.

Sources suggest that CPM MLA Lakshman Munda has extended support to the motion, potentially strengthening the opposition’s position.

Congress leaders have cited governance lapses and administrative failures as key reasons for the motion, signalling a turbulent phase in Odisha’s political landscape. The Assembly is expected to witness intense debate in the coming days as the motion is taken up for discussion.
