Congress protests alleged assault by Odisha Governor’s son, demands action

Bhubaneswar, (Orissa Today), July 16: Congress workers staged a protest near Raj Bhavan in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday, demanding strict action against the son of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das for allegedly assaulting an assistant section officer (ASO).
Activists from the youth and student wings of the state Congress gathered outside Raj Bhavan to protest the reported assault of ASO Baikuntha Pradhan by Governor’s son Lalit Kumar in Puri. They called for decisive measures against Lalit Kumar and questioned why he has not yet apologized for the incident.
The demonstrators also insisted on a thorough investigation by the state government, emphasizing the importance of Odia pride and dignity in the matter. Earlier, the Odisha government transferred ASO Baikuntha Pradhan from the Parliamentary Affairs Department to the Home Department.
According to reports, the alleged assault occurred when Pradhan was stationed at Raj Bhavan in Puri during President Droupadi Murmu’s visit for the Rath Yatra. Pradhan accused Governor’s son Lalit Kumar and six others of physically attacking him on the night of July 7 at the Raj Bhavan premises. He detailed the assault, alleging punches to his face, kicks, and other physical abuse, including threats.
A complaint was lodged at Sea Beach Police Station in Puri, stating that Kumar was displeased with Pradhan for not arranging luxury vehicles for his reception at Puri railway station. During the incident, Kumar reportedly demanded Pradhan to lick his shoes and continued to threaten him.
