Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati Attacked During Torch Rally in Koraput

(OT webdesk)Tension flared in Koraput on August 14 after Congress MLA from Jeypore, Taraprasad Bahinipati, was allegedly assaulted during a torchlight rally organised by the Koraput District Congress.

The rally, which began at Gundicha Temple and concluded at the local bus stand, saw participation from senior leaders, including Congress Legislature Party chief Ramachandra Kadam.

As the procession reached the bus stand, a man identified as Krushna Chandra Kuldeep reportedly slapped and abused Bahinipati, issuing threats in full public view. Locals quickly intervened, overpowering Kuldeep and handing him over to the Town Police.

Both parties have filed FIRs. Bahinipati’s PSO accused Kuldeep of assault and issuing death threats, while Kuldeep alleged that the MLA and his brother were conspiring to kill him.

Kuldeep, a daily wage worker at the bus stand, is currently undergoing treatment at Koraput Hospital and remains in police custody.

No official statements have been released by either Bahinipati or Kuldeep. Police have registered a case and launched a full investigation into the incident.
