Cold Wave to Grip Odisha After Christmas, IMD Warns of Sharp Temperature Drop
Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a fresh spell of intense cold wave conditions across Odisha beginning December 25.
According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, the chill will be driven by an increased flow of dry, cold north‑westerly winds combined with the departure of a western disturbance, setting the stage for a sharp fall in night temperatures across several districts.
Dense fog has already been disrupting life in many parts of the state, particularly during late-night and early morning hours.
Officials caution that visibility may worsen further due to enhanced moisture at lower atmospheric levels, potentially affecting road and rail traffic.
Meteorologists note that several regions have already recorded the season’s lowest temperatures multiple times this winter.
A similar trend is expected to repeat after Christmas, with some areas likely to witness a sudden drop of up to seven degrees Celsius.
Residents are advised to exercise caution while travelling in foggy conditions and prepare for a prolonged cold spell.
Weather officials are closely monitoring the situation and will issue updates if conditions intensify further.
