Cold Wave Tightens Grip on Odisha as Semiliguda Records 5.7°C
Odisha is reeling under a severe cold wave, with temperatures plunging sharply across several districts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the chilly conditions are likely to persist for at least a week, bringing cold nights and frosty mornings.
Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.7°C, followed closely by Koraput town at 6°C and G. Udayagiri at 6.6°C. Jharsuguda registered 7.2°C, while Daringbadi—often called the “Kashmir of Odisha”—logged 8°C. Boudh reported 9.4°C, and several other regions, including Chiplima, Angul, Rayagada, and Nabarangpur, hovered close to 10°C.
The biting cold has disrupted daily life, particularly for children, senior citizens, and outdoor workers.
Authorities have urged residents to take precautions such as wearing warm clothing and avoiding prolonged exposure during early mornings and late nights.
With dry weather expected to prevail, the IMD has cautioned that no significant rise in temperatures is on the horizon.
Residents are advised to stay updated with official advisories as Odisha braces for continued wintry conditions.
