Bhubaneswar (Orissa Today): In a heartbreaking incident in Jagatsinghpur’s Balrampur village, Odisha, a Ramleela performance turned tragic when a coconut tree unexpectedly fell on the audience. The incident claimed the life of a woman and left four others, including a child, seriously injured.
The tree, which was part of the stage setup, had ropes tied to it and was being tightened with a tractor for the Ramleela enactment. Unfortunately, it suddenly broke and collapsed, causing panic and chaos among the spectators.
Eyewitnesses expressed frustration as an ambulance was delayed in arriving at the scene, and local anger reportedly escalated into damage to the ambulance. The injured have been transferred to Cuttack for urgent medical treatment, while the deceased has been identified as a woman from a nearby village.
This incident casts a shadow on what was supposed to be a celebration of cultural traditions, highlighting the need for enhanced safety measures in such events.
