Cuttack, June 18(OT Webdesk): In a decisive move aimed at safeguarding public health, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Tuesday sealed a private water distribution unit in Sankarpur Das Sahi for allegedly selling unfiltered drinking water.
Acting on public complaints, the CMC Health Department launched a surprise inspection of the facility.
During the raid, officials uncovered that the company had been releasing untreated water into the market, bypassing mandatory filtration protocols.
“The water was being distributed without any proper purification system in place, posing a serious threat to the community’s health,” said a CMC official involved in the raid.
The company’s operations were immediately shut down to prevent further supply.
Authorities have emphasised the need for strict compliance with safety standards, especially during the monsoon season when waterborne diseases spike.
In light of the findings, the CMC has announced citywide inspections of water suppliers to ensure public safety.
Officials have also urged residents to verify the source of their drinking water and report any suspicious activities to the municipal helpline.
