CM Majhi to Launch “Zero Accident Day” in Keonjhar to Champion Road Safety
Keonjhar — In a bold stride toward safer roads, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will inaugurate the “Zero Accident Day” (ZAD) campaign in Keonjhar on September 13, 2025.
This marks a significant expansion of Odisha’s acclaimed “Come Home Safe” initiative, which aims to reduce road accidents through behavioural change, community engagement, and data-driven enforcement.
Keonjhar, one of the most accident-prone districts in the state, will host a 14-day movement designed to nudge citizens toward safer driving habits.
The campaign will feature workshops, street plays, digital outreach, and public interactions led by local volunteers, students, and civic leaders acting as Road Safety Ambassadors.
The initiative is backed by RBG Labs at IIT Madras, which will apply behavioural science and analytics to guide enforcement strategies.
Violations such as speeding, helmetless riding, and drunk driving will be addressed with a focus on counselling over punishment.
Transport Commissioner Amitabh Thakur emphasised the importance of replicating Bhubaneswar’s successful pilot, stating, “Behavioural change is possible when government, citizens, and academia come together. Keonjhar must now set a model for the entire state.”
The launch event will take place at the Keonjhar Collectorate, followed by a series of activities involving schools, colleges, and civic bodies.
