CM Majhi to Attend Dhanu Yatra 2025 in Bargarh – World’s Largest Open-Air Theatre Festival
Bargarh – Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will travel to Bargarh tomorrow to witness the world-renowned Dhanu Yatra festival, celebrated as the largest open-air theatre performance in the world.
The festival, which dramatises Lord Krishna’s legendary journey to Mathura to defeat the demon king Kansa, transforms the entire town into a massive stage for 11 days. Streets become Mathura, Ambapali turns into Gopapura, and the Jeera River symbolises the Yamuna.
Thousands of artists and residents participate, while lakhs of visitors from across India and abroad flock to witness the spectacle.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari confirmed the Chief Minister’s participation, noting that Majhi accepted a formal invitation from the actor portraying Maharaja Kansa.
In keeping with tradition, the performer assumes symbolic authority as the “king” of Bargarh during the festival, ceremonially governing the town and issuing invitations.
Minister Pujari emphasised the cultural importance of Dhanu Yatra, highlighting its role in showcasing Odisha’s rich heritage.
He added that the Chief Minister’s presence will enhance the prominence of the 2025 edition, which has already begun with vibrant celebrations.
Blending devotion, drama, and community participation, Dhanu Yatra continues to draw global attention and stands as a proud symbol of Odisha’s cultural legacy.
