CM Majhi Orders Probe into Elephant Death by Illegal Wire in Sambalpur
SAMBALPUR, (OT Webdesk)— A five-year-old female elephant was found dead early Sunday morning in the Nakati Deula forest area of Redhakhol Division, Sambalpur.
Preliminary findings suggest electrocution due to a live wire allegedly installed illegally by a local resident.
Terming the incident “tragic and unacceptable,” Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called for a high-level investigation.
A forest team led by Chief Conservator Manoj Nayar, along with senior officials from both the Forest and Electricity Departments, reached the scene to probe the cause and identify those responsible.
The CM’s office reiterated the state’s commitment to wildlife protection and stated that strict action will be taken against any negligence or unlawful activity contributing to such incidents.
This latest loss has reignited urgent calls for stronger forest surveillance and preventive strategies to protect Odisha’s rich wildlife heritage from avoidable tragedies.
