CM Majhi Celebrates Nuakhai in Sambalpur, Unveils Vision for Western Odisha’s Growth

Sambalpur, Sept 6 — Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi marked his presence at the state-level Nuakhai Bhetghat festival in Sambalpur, calling it a tribute to farmers, nature, and familial unity.

Addressing a packed gathering, Majhi described Nuakhai as “the identity of our existence,” emphasising its role in fostering peace, prosperity, and social cohesion.

In a series of announcements, Majhi unveiled plans to transform Western Odisha into a tourism and industrial powerhouse. Historic sites like Khinda, tied to the freedom struggle, will be upgraded to preserve the region’s legacy.

Tourism development will centre around iconic destinations such as Hirakud Dam, Debrigarh’s forests, and revered temples, including Samaleswari and Pataneswari.

Spiritual circuits like Harishankar-Nrusinghanath will also be enhanced.

Majhi announced an ambitious industrial corridor connecting Paradip to Rourkela via key districts, aimed at boosting connectivity and inclusive development. “Paddy is not just a crop—it embodies the sweat and dreams of our farmers,” he said, reaffirming his government’s commitment to increasing farmer incomes and resolving grievances directly.

To honor regional traditions, the day after Nuakhai has been declared a public holiday. The event saw participation from senior ministers and legislators, with temple visits preceding the celebrations.
