CM Assures Tier-2 Trauma Care Facility for Barbil After Civil Society Appeal

Barbil, Odisha – In a major boost to healthcare infrastructure in Odisha’s mining belt, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has assured the upgradation of Barbil Community Health Centre (CHC) to a Sub-Divisional Hospital (SDH-II) with a Tier-2 trauma care facility. The assurance came after Ram Kumar Prasad, a representative of Barbil Civil Society, submitted a memorandum highlighting the urgent need for advanced medical services in the region.

Barbil CHC currently serves over 2.5 lakh people across Barbil Municipality, seven Gram Panchayats of Joda Block, and adjoining areas of Jharkhand. Despite operating with limited resources, the CHC handles 450 OPD patients daily, 80 deliveries monthly without an O&G specialist, and 10–15 major trauma cases each month.

The Civil Society emphasized that the region’s industrial activity and accident-prone environment demand a higher-level facility. A new 60,000 sq. ft. hospital block is nearing completion, with plans for ICU, CT scan, SNCU, and OT facilities.

Responding to the appeal, CM Majhi assured that the government would fulfill the demand and provide a Tier-2 trauma care unit, ensuring timely and equitable healthcare for the people of this high-risk region. The announcement has been welcomed with optimism by local residents.
