Class 2 Girl Locked Overnight in Keonjhar School: Safety Protocols Under Scrutiny

Keonjhar, (OT Webdesk) — In a deeply troubling incident, a Class 2 student was accidentally locked inside her classroom overnight at Anjara Government Upper Primary School in Bansapal block, Keonjhar district.

The child, Jyotsna Dehuri, was discovered the next morning in a harrowing state—clinging to the iron window railing in a desperate attempt to escape.

According to reports, school staff locked the premises around 4 PM on Thursday, unaware that Jyotsna remained inside. Her family, alarmed by her absence, searched extensively but failed to locate her.

It wasn’t until 9 AM the next day that the school cook found her suspended awkwardly in the window frame, her legs outside and torso trapped inside.

Eyewitnesses say Jyotsna had tried to bend the iron bars with her bare hands to escape, enduring the night in pain and fear.

Villagers and family members rushed to the scene, retrieved the classroom key, and managed to rescue her by further bending the bars.

She was immediately taken to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital, accompanied by school authorities. Officials from the School and Mass Education Department confirmed that she is safe and recovering.

The incident has triggered widespread concern over school safety protocols and staff accountability. A formal inquiry is expected to follow.
