Chinese drone with high-resolution camera recovered at Tripura border

Agartala, Aug 2 (UNI) Hours before the visit of Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, M Riaz Hamidullah, to visit the Integrated Check Post at Agartala and Akhaura Land Port yesterday, the BSF recovered a Chinese drone with a sophisticated camera and a big battery from a few kilometres distance.

‘BSF rushed to the bordering village of Bin Para of Lankamura, close to Agartala airport, and recovered the drone inside barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border,’ said the police, based on a distress call. Later, the case was handed over to the airport police station and then sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory for further investigation.

“The bomb squad has deactivated the instruments and separated the camera and battery to zero down the risk of any remote explosion and to prevent any data capture from the vital installation during the investigation. However, we have not yet ascertained from where it has come,” said Abhijit Mandal, Officer-in-Charge of the airport police station.

Hours after the recovery of the drone, Hamidullah arrived at Agartala for a three-day meeting. He met Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and had a detailed discussion over the restoration of the bilateral relationship between Tripura and Bangladesh, cross-border crime, border trade, and suspended infrastructure projects of connectivity between the two countries.

A villager identified as Manoj Bin noticed the drone in his sugarcane field while working and informed BSF, according to the report. The investigation has been going on to determine whether it was a military drone or sent to monitor border security issues on the Indian side, according to the police sources.
