CBI Takes Over Odisha SI Exam Scam Investigation in Berhampur

Berhampur, Nov 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has formally taken charge of the Odisha Police Sub‑Inspector (SI) recruitment exam scam, intensifying the probe into one of the state’s most controversial recruitment scandals.

The case, previously handled by the Crime Branch, was transferred to the CBI following Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s recommendation on October 22, which received approval from the Centre.

A CBI team has now reached Berhampur to begin deeper investigations.

Authorities suspect the involvement of influential figures, senior officials, and even a Rs 1000 crore deal under the previous government.

Key accused include Shankar, arrested near the Nepal border, and Suresh Nayak, owner of Silicon Tech Pvt. Ltd. Despite initial arrests of 117 individuals—including candidates and middlemen—the probe has yet to uncover the full extent of the racket.

The SI recruitment exam has already been cancelled twice in the past eight months, leaving thousands of aspirants in uncertainty.

With the CBI stepping in, pressure mounts on those allegedly linked to the scam, and expectations rise for a transparent investigation that could expose the masterminds behind the fraud.
