Businessman Defrauded of Rs 1.08 Crore in Luxury Car Scam; Accused Arrested

Bhubaneswar, June 10, ( OT Webdesk)– A high-profile fraud case has emerged in Odisha’s twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where businessman and car enthusiast Rohit Roshan Mohanty was allegedly defrauded of Rs 1.08 crore in a luxury car scam.

The prime accused, Sambit Panda, introduced himself as a freelance car broker and former manager at Audi Bhubaneswar, gaining Mohanty’s trust before persuading him to transfer funds for a luxury vehicle.

Despite receiving Rs 1.08 crore through multiple transactions, Panda failed to deliver the car and became unresponsive.

When confronted, he allegedly resorted to verbal abuse and threats. Investigations revealed Panda used forged documents and had a history of similar fraudulent activities.

Panda, the son of retired police officer Bidyut Chandra Panda, was arrested on June 9, 2025, at a NEXA showroom in Cuttack following an extensive police probe.

During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and implicated two accomplices, whose identities remain undisclosed as investigations continue.

The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police are working to uncover additional victims and the full scope of the fraud, highlighting the risks within the luxury car brokerage market
