Burla Police Bust Illegal Cough Syrup Racket, Three Arrested in Odisha
Burla police have dismantled an illegal narcotics racket operating in the town late Monday night. Acting on a tip‑off, officers raided the area near the Mirdhapada Hanuman temple and seized a large cache of contraband.
Authorities recovered 122 bottles of Escof cough syrup, several strips of Nite‑10 narcotic tablets—some already consumed—along with a car allegedly used for transport, Rs 3,600 in cash, and three mobile phones.
Investigators revealed that the accused were mixing cough syrup with narcotic tablets before selling them to local buyers. Three individuals were arrested:
- K. Sujit (24) of Bhaktimandap, Burla
- Sushant Nag (36) of Bishnumandirapada
- Sanket Mishra (28) of Phatak Malipada, Sambalpur
A case has been registered at Burla Police Station, and the accused were produced before a local court.
Police are now probing the supply chain to trace the source of the contraband and uncover possible links to a wider network.
