Bhubaneswar, Dec 24: In a tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee ahead of his 100th birth anniversary, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled a striking 10-foot bronze statue at Bellview Square, near the Odisha Judicial Academy, in Cuttack city on Tuesday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Cuttack Mayor Subhash Chandra Singh, Barabati-Cuttack MLA Sofia Firdous, and Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde.
Chief Minister Majhi emphasized Vajpayee’s legacy, stating, “His extraordinary public service commitments will be celebrated tomorrow to mark his 100th birth anniversary, which coincides with Good Governance Day.”
The statue, crafted under the supervision of artist Sanjib Biswal and renowned sculptor Laxmidhar Rana, weighs 10 quintals and stands on an 8-foot-high lotus-shaped pedestal.
During the event, the Cuttack Collector noted that the idea for the statue was originally proposed by former BJP MLA Samir Dey. The installation serves as a lasting tribute to Vajpayee’s contributions to Indian politics and his commitment to governance. This initiative highlights the state’s dedication to honoring influential leaders who have shaped the nation’s history.
