Bolangir Police Rescue 12 Bonded Labourers, Contractor Absconds

In a late-night operation, Bolangir police rescued 12 bonded labourers being trafficked illegally near Kurlubahal Chhak under Muribahal police limits.

The group included one child, four women, and eight men, all from Chanabahali village.

Police intercepted an auto-rickshaw carrying the labourers, seized the vehicle, and arrested the driver, Binod Chhanda of Chanabahali.

He was produced in court, while the prime accused, labour contractor Tejaraj Nag of Dhatukjuri village, fled the scene.

Authorities have registered Case No. 237/2025 and assigned Investigating Officer Pankajani Bag to trace Nag and dismantle the trafficking network.

Muribahal officer Sanatan Sahu confirmed that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The incident has sparked concern in the locality, with residents demanding strict action against those exploiting vulnerable workers.

Police have assured that measures will be taken to protect labourers and prevent further trafficking in the region.
