Bolangir Farmer Dies by Suicide After Crop Loss and Loan Burden

Bolangir, August 14,(OT Webdesk): In a tragic incident that underscores the deepening agrarian crisis in Odisha, a farmer from Karasuda village under Titlagarh block in Bolangir district allegedly died by suicide after suffering severe crop losses and financial distress.

The deceased, identified as Durga Bhoi, son of Parameswar Bhoi, reportedly consumed poison after failing to repay a group loan.

Family members revealed that Durga had been under immense stress due to his inability to meet loan obligations.

He was initially rushed to Sindhekela Hospital and later referred to Titilagarh Sub-Divisional Hospital.

Doctors advised shifting him to Balangir District Headquarters Hospital, but he tragically passed away en route.

This incident has reignited concerns over farmer welfare, loan accessibility, and the urgent need for robust support systems in rural Odisha.

Local activists and community leaders are calling for immediate intervention to prevent further loss of life among distressed farmers.
