BJP Leader Jagannath Pradhan Arrested in BMC Assault Case, Court Appearance Next
Bhubaneswar, July 3(OT Webdesk): In a dramatic political development, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Jagannath Pradhan was arrested on Thursday evening in connection with the recent assault on Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ratnakar Sahoo.
The arrest, which marks the sixth in the case, took place at the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) office, where Pradhan had voluntarily appeared.
The incident traces back to a public grievance hearing on Monday that turned violent, with Sahoo being forcibly dragged from his office and assaulted—an act captured in disturbing video footage that has since sparked widespread condemnation across political and administrative circles.
The Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association had named Pradhan the prime accused and demanded swift action. Following his arrest, the BJP leader underwent a mandatory health check-up at Capital Hospital.
He is expected to be produced before a local court for further legal proceedings.
Pradhan, while denying direct involvement, stated, “If my arrest can resolve the issue, I am ready to cooperate.” The BJP has yet to release an official statement.
Analysts believe this episode may impact the party’s internal dynamics as Odisha braces for upcoming elections.
As public scrutiny intensifies, the state government’s handling of the case and the political ripple effects remain closely watched.
