BJD to hold women and youth conferences to ‘expose BJP govt failures’

Bhubaneswar, June 11 (UNI) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will hold a women’s conference and a youth-student conference to protest the alleged injustice being faced by women, youth, and students during the past year of the BJP government in Odisha.

While the BJP is planning to celebrate the first anniversary of its government by showcasing its achievements, the Opposition BJD has decided to organise these conferences to highlight what it sees as the state government’s failures in various sectors.

BJD sources said a women’s conference would be held in Jajpur on June 13, and a youth and students’ conference will be organised in Puri on June 18 to expose the BJP government’s shortcomings.

Senior BJD vice president Pramila Mallick and vice president Sanjay Dasburma have alleged that the state government has completely failed to deliver on its promises made to women and students.

Mallick pointed out that former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had launched Mission Shakti to empower women, benefiting around 70 lakh women across the state.

Patnaik, she said, also facilitated interest-free, long-term loans and provided women opportunities to undertake work in 20 departments of the state government.

However, she claimed that after the BJP came to power, these initiatives were halted, depriving women of their chance to become self-reliant.

Mallick further stated that the BJP’s promise to provide Rs 50,000 to every woman in the state within two years under the Subhadra Yojana has been exposed as false.

Instead, the BJP has stretched the scheme to five years and split the amount into 10 instalments.
She also ridiculed the BJP government’s claim of creating 17 lakh ‘Lakhpati Didis,’ calling it a record only on paper.

The women’s conference in Jajpur on June 13 will focus on highlighting the injustice and oppression faced by women.

Dasburma said the BJP government has also failed to fulfil its promises to the youth and students. He stated that the BJP’s pledge to provide employment to 1.5 lakh youth and women in the state has remained a slogan.

He added that confusion in various state examinations over the past year has caused mental and physical distress to candidates.

The Supreme Court’s observations on the question paper confusion in the OJS exam have further embarrassed the state government, he said.
Similar issues have been seen in the Staff Selection and OPSC exams, where question paper leaks and distribution errors forced the cancellation of exams.

Dasburma also alleged that the BJP government cancelled scholarships for higher education that were provided by the previous government.
The youth conference in Puri on June 18 aims to highlight these failures and the BJP government’s inability to deliver on its promises to Odisha’s youth.
