BJD MPs Skip President Murmu’s Breakfast Amid SCB Hospital Fire Tragedy

All Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Members of Parliament chose not to attend President Droupadi Murmu’s breakfast meeting at Rashtrapati Bhavan, citing the devastating fire at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

The blaze, reportedly caused by an electrical fault in the ICU ward, claimed 10 lives and left several others injured.

BJD’s parliamentary leader Sasmit Patra confirmed the boycott, emphasising that the party’s priority was to stand with grieving families and ensure proper treatment for survivors.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed condolences, directed party leaders to assist victims, and urged hospitals to provide quality care.

Rajya Sabha MP Manas Mangaraj stated that his conscience did not permit him to attend a ceremonial event during such a tragedy.

The party’s decision underscores its focus on Odisha’s people over political protocol, while the incident has reignited calls for accountability and reforms in hospital safety standards.
