BJD Mounts Pressure Over Student Safety: Protests Erupt Outside FM College, Balasore
Balasore, July 14, (OT Webdesk)In a dramatic show of public dissent, members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), including its student and youth wings, staged an aggressive protest outside Fakir Mohan (FM) College in Balasore today.
The unrest centres on demands for justice for a female student whose safety was allegedly compromised on campus.
Protesters blocked the college gate, burned tires, and torched effigies of the Chief Minister, Higher Education Minister, and local legislators, calling for their immediate resignation.
Demonstrators condemned the state government’s failure to protect students, asserting that the current administration is “incapable of ensuring campus safety.”
Echoes of the Balasore agitation reached Bhubaneswar, where similar demonstrations were organised by both BJD and Congress supporters.
The coordinated political outcry is rapidly gaining traction, fueling demands for stricter accountability measures in educational institutions across Odisha.
The BJD emphasised that without swift and decisive government action, they would escalate their campaign further.
