In the wake of internal unrest within the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) over the party’s conflicting stance during the Rajya Sabha vote on the Waqf Amendment Bill, party president Naveen Patnaik has assured that appropriate action will be taken.
This assurance came after a meeting with Rajya Sabha MP Munna Khan and a delegation of minority community members, who expressed disappointment over the party’s handling of the vote.

The controversy stems from BJD MPs taking divergent positions—some supporting the bill, others opposing it, and some abstaining. This has led to accusations of violating party discipline, with Munna Khan demanding inquiries and suspensions for those responsible. Supporters of Khan have also called for the removal of VK Pandian, alleging that his influence contributed to the party’s ideological confusion.
Patnaik reaffirmed the BJD’s commitment to secular values. He emphasized that the BJD has always stood for peace and harmony.
The conch party now awaits Patnaik’s next steps to resolve the growing rift and restore unity.
