Bhubaneswar, Jan 10: Chhattisgarh Police have detained Bishal Das, son of former Odisha minister and three-time Jharsuguda MLA Naba Das, along with several Samiti members and a Sarpanch from Kirmira block, at Saraipali in Chhattisgarh. The detentions occurred just hours before the crucial no-confidence motion against the Kirmira block chairman.
Former Jharsuguda MLA and Bishal’s sister, Deepali Das, alleged the detentions were politically motivated to influence the outcome of the motion. She stated that detained members informed the police of their need to participate in the vote at 10:30 am but were still handed over to Chhattisgarh Police without legal grounds. Bishal, who went to assist the detained members, was also taken into custody around 1 am.
Deepali accused authorities of acting under political pressure, questioning the timing of the detentions and the search of Bishal’s hotel room. She blamed the Odisha and Chhattisgarh governments for compromising the democratic process and warned against any harm to her brother.
Seeking assurance for Bishal’s safety, she recalled the tragic killing of her father, Naba Das, and demanded transparency and accountability in the current case.
