Bird flu outbreak in Puri: Mass culling begins in poultry farms
Puri, July 12 (UNI) The Puri district administration has initiated the culling of poultry in Muninda Gram Panchayat under Delang block in Puri district after bird flu was confirmed in two broiler farms.
Authorities have imposed a ban on the transportation of birds from the affected area and instructed all check gates to strictly monitor and prevent the movement of poultry.
According to official sources, around 6,000 to 8,000 birds across three poultry farms have been affected by the outbreak, as confirmed by sample tests conducted by the State Veterinary Department.
Yesterday , in the presence of State Animal Husbandry Secretary Amrit Kulange, along with district and block veterinary officials, culling operations began at a farm in Benupara village. Approximately 4,300 birds were culled on the first day.
The remaining birds are scheduled to be culled today, with the process to be carried out in phases to prevent the spread of avian influenza.
Meanwhile, several farm owners have expressed concern over the lack of financial compensation. They claim that despite previous assurances of aid during similar outbreaks, they have yet to receive any support.
The ban on bird transportation from the affected region remains in effect, officials confirmed.
