Bike-Bus Collision in Nabarangpur Leaves One Dead, Three Schoolchildren Injured

Nabarangpur,| October 15, 2025 — A tragic road accident in Raighar block of Nabarangpur district claimed the life of a 60-year-old man and left three schoolchildren injured on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred near a petrol pump on the Raighar-Kundei main road when a school bus from Biju Patnaik Modern Public School (registration OR 24E 9024) collided head-on with a Luna bike.

The deceased, identified as Samaru Gand of Turudihi village, was reportedly manoeuvring his two-wheeler toward the petrol station when the bus struck him.

The impact caused the bus to lose balance and veer dangerously close to a nearby river, narrowly avoiding a larger catastrophe. The bus was carrying students from Hatbharandi, Kundei, Jodinga, and Hiri villages.

Among the injured were:

  • Himanshu Gond, Grade 1, Hatbharandi
  • Mukesh Gond, Grade 3, Jodinga
  • Dharitri Gand, Grade 1, Hiri

All three were rushed to a local medical facility for treatment.

Raighar police arrived promptly, seized the bus and the deceased’s body, and have launched an investigation. Locals allege that frequent speeding and reckless driving on this stretch of road have made it a hotspot for accidents.

This incident has reignited public concern over road safety measures and the need for stricter enforcement in school transport operations.
