Bhubaneswar Taxi Driver’s Death Linked to Job Fraud Racket; Four Arrested
In a chilling turn of events, Bhubaneswar taxi driver Bidyadhar Sahoo was found dead near the Baranga–Pitapalli roadside on September 20, following a disturbing sequence tied to a job fraud network.
Sahoo, who had been reported missing by his wife on September 19, was allegedly involved in a fraudulent employment scheme alongside a woman known as Jyostna Rani Khuntia, referred to as “Madam.” Acting as a middleman, he collected money and original documents from job seekers under false promises of placement.
On September 15, a group of defrauded individuals from Gajapati, Balasore, and Jajpur districts confronted and detained Sahoo in Bhubaneswar. He was taken to Jajpur, where tensions escalated.
On September 19, Sahoo reportedly died by suicide in a rented house. The accused attempted to stage the death as a roadside hanging but abandoned the body and fled.
Police have arrested four men from Gajapati district and seized critical evidence, including:
- 26 rubber stamps from various organisations
- Original educational certificates of job aspirants
- Sahoo’s Swift Dzire car
- Multiple mobile phones
The case has sparked outrage and raised urgent concerns about the vulnerability of job seekers and the growing menace of employment scams. Authorities continue to investigate the role of the alleged mastermind and other accomplices.
