Bhubaneswar Police Bust Illegal Arms Network, Seize Cache of Firearms

In a decisive early morning operation, the Special Crime Unit of the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police apprehended a suspect transporting a significant cache of illegal firearms and ammunition.

The arrest took place near Dhatili Junction around 5 AM, following a month-long surveillance effort.

The accused, Shaikh Nadim (31), hailing from Jagatsinghpur district, was intercepted while allegedly en route from Puri to deliver the weapons to local dealers. Police recovered 10 semi-automatic pistols, 18 live rounds, 10 magazines, a mobile phone, and a red Pulsar motorcycle from his possession.

Acting on a specific intelligence tip-off, the operation was led by City CP Anup Panigrahi.

Nadim was found carrying the weapons in a blue rucksack and is currently under interrogation to uncover the supply chain, financial backers, and potential links to broader criminal networks.

Authorities confirmed his connection to at least five other pending cases.

The Commissionerate Police emphasised their commitment to dismantling illegal arms networks and urged citizens to report suspicious activities.
