Bhubaneswar Gang Rape: Naveen Patnaik Condemns BJP Over Odisha Women’s Safety Crisis
Bhubaneswar, Dec 21, 2025: A shocking incident has once again shaken Odisha’s capital. A 17‑year‑old girl was gang raped at a hotel in Bhubaneswar on December 19, sparking outrage across the state.
Former Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik condemned the assault, calling it a “barbaric act” that highlights the BJP government’s failure to ensure women’s safety.
Patnaik linked the case to another gang rape reported on December 10 along the Dhauli riverbank, framing the incidents as part of a disturbing rise in crimes against women since the BJP assumed power in June 2024.
“This barbaric incident is a stark reminder of the deteriorating law and order situation under the current regime,” Patnaik said in a post on X, urging immediate action to protect vulnerable citizens.
The opposition has intensified demands for accountability, with protests expected to escalate in the coming days.
Civil society groups have also called for fast‑track courts and stronger policing to restore public confidence.
The twin cases have reignited debate over women’s safety in Bhubaneswar, with many residents expressing fear that the city is becoming increasingly unsafe for women.
