Bhubaneswar Court Temporarily Bans Jatra Actor Piyush Tripathy Over Contract Breach
Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Popular Odia Jatra actor Piyush Tripathy, known for his powerful antagonist roles, has been temporarily restrained from performing on stage following a court order in Bhubaneswar.
The interim directive was issued after a Jatra troupe filed a complaint alleging breach of contract.
According to the petition, Tripathy was bound by an agreement that prohibited him from acting for any other troupe during the contract period.
The troupe claimed he violated this clause by performing with another group.
After a preliminary hearing, the court found merit in the allegations and imposed a temporary ban on Tripathy’s stage appearances until the next hearing.
The case has sparked widespread debate in Odisha’s cultural circles, given Tripathy’s strong popularity among audiences.
Industry insiders say the ruling has come as a surprise, with many awaiting the final outcome of the case.
The next hearing will determine whether the restraining order continues or is lifted.
